A different side of Tokyo

Nature might not be the first thing you associate with the world’s largest city, but Tokyo is home to a network of tranquil greenways, peaceful paths lined with trees, gardens, and even remnants of old waterways.

This tour takes you to some of the city’s most serene green spaces while also showcasing quirky local landmarks that add a unique touch to this unforgettable, journey through central Tokyo.

About the Experience

This tour will take us along two of Tokyo’s beautiful greenways: the Meguro River Greenway and the Karasuyama Greenway.

Greenways are pedestrian-friendly streets that stand out from regular roads with their unique aesthetic features. These may include visible water, lush trees, or thoughtful landscaping. Many greenways follow the paths of former rivers, which have since been redirected underground, preserving their legacy as tranquil and scenic routes through the city.

Hi, I’m Ian, a video producer, primarily for the Abroad in Japan YouTube channel. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on more than 75 videos, garnering over 125 million views, sharing unique locations and unforgettable routes across Japan with a global audience. I also help organize and plan the route for CDawgVA’s annual Cyclethon event, which has raised over $2 million for the Immune Deficiency Foundation.

Exploring Japan has been a big part of my life, and I’ve been fortunate to uncover some of its most fascinating and lesser-known destinations across all 47 prefectures.

After 15 years of living in Tokyo, I’ve come to love its quieter corners, the places that reveal a deeper, more meaningful side of this vibrant city. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, I’d be thrilled to have you join one of my walks. Together, we’ll explore some of the city’s hidden gems and create a visit you’ll always remember.
